A week of scared cats
Nov. 6th, 2002 12:18 pmWell, Guy Fawkes may be over, but the fireworks are likely to continue for a good week yet. Emily will just have to make herself comfortable under the bed in the far corner of the bedroom. She will be going there for some time to come. Next door have had fireworks displays for the last two nights; they must have bought fireworks on a Bouchier-scale. Either that or it is some sort of complicated and expensive revenge on the neighbourhood wildlife.
As yet, the twins are indifferent to the joys of November 5th (although I admit that we did not even try to interest them this time around). However, we expect this to change over the coming years. Martin and I used to enjoy Guy Fawkes and make a big deal of it. Doubtless, in the years to come, Dom and I will be carting them off to every big display in the area.
This morning I managed a short baby-escape. I left Dom on babysitting duty to go to the hairdressers. I persuaded them to cut a fair amount off this time. The result still counts as "long" hair, but it is possible that people may actually notice. If so, it will be the first time in fifteen years that anyone has been able to tell that I have had a hair cut. On the other hand, should they be LJ people, they may just be remembering to notice that I have had a hair cut. This being just one of those little side-effects of keeping an on-line diary.
My final news is that my story editing is coming along quite nicely. Eight chapters and a prelude have been amended out of eighty-nine chapters, a prelude and an epilogue. Some of the later chapters are the longest ones, although they also need fewer changes. So I think I have managed a tenth of the total. There will then be a second and final editing when Dom re-reads it from start to finish and highlights everything which needs tweaking. But then the whole thing will be finished. And I will be able to think about book two (for which I have had some ideas already). This will, hopefully, be less high fantasy and more mystery. That is the plan, anyhow.
