It's been an odd week. What with [livejournal.com profile] bateleur going to Germany for three days, a (consequent) mid-week visit from [livejournal.com profile] frax and [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin and a rare phone call from [livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy nothing's been at all normal.

It was odd to be [livejournal.com profile] bateleurless for three days. Downsides included having to get the twins their breakfast each morning (that's his job, he doesn't get home in time to see them at the other end of the day), explaining where the rhinos went (our backdrop was replaced - for Bea's benefit - with a map of Europe showing where Daddy had gone. Bea didn't care about the map, she just wanted the rhinos backdrop back), many consequent questions about the lack of Daddy (the map was entirely useless for this purpose, but Ryan was keen on the idea of Daddy being in a plane) and sleeping alone. Actually, another embarrassing downside is that I couldn't play Dark Fall : Lights Out, the sequel to Dark Fall : The Journal. This is because the previous game was scary enough to give me a number of complicated and disturbing nightmares and I didn't fancy having them again whilst being on my own.

The plus sides were the nice box of chocolates that [livejournal.com profile] bateleur brought back for me and [livejournal.com profile] frax and [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin coming over for dinner. For practically the first time ever I cooked (spag bol) and there was also red wine (Pinotage-Cinsault which I really liked) and Tesco's Finest chocolate tart. We talked a lot (unsurprisingly) about FalCon, Bookclub and jobs. Additionally, [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel gave me a call, because she had realised that I was on my own (resulting in remarkably similar topics of conversation!). As per usual the twins gathered around hoping it was Granny Iris (who also rang) although, for once, I think I got the message across that she wasn't. I suppose it makes a change from her being mistaken for [livejournal.com profile] triskellian.

[livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy rang on Friday morning. He and TheHattedOne are now(/still?) in Australia, although I think they're leaving in a week or so. They've been diving a lot and really enjoying themselves. I think that [livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy in particular has really enjoyed being in that part of the world and is rather apprehensive about the next stage of the trip. Not least because it sounds like their doctors messed up with their jabs and things before they went and they are both missing an important one (no, I don't remember which one). I listened to their news and gave them mine; I miss them and they miss us. However, they're now over half-way through.

Apart from the phone calls and visit, in my spare time and rare, twinless quiet I've been continuing to write Fourth (which really needs a proper name). I've passed the thirty-five thousand word mark and I suppose I should start thinking about doing a synopsis and covering letter to prepare to send it out. I think it's my best to date, particularly having made the decision to go back into the fantasy style (although "fantasy" really isn't a good label for the genre of this book) after a bit of unsuccessful experimentation with Empty-handed (Third).

They may still be able to pick up their missing jab in Australia somewhere... if there's a hospital of Tropical Diseases (or something similar), they might have a walk-in clinic.

Of course, I realise you can't do much about it on their behalf ;o)

I could drop them an email - thanks for the tip.

Ah, but while Daddys are found in Dusseldorf, Rhinos found much further away, only in Kenya.

...wait, that's lions and tigers isn't it?
