He appears to undergo a vast character change across the course of the book. Not that he's the only one; Random's development is the weirdest - his dire past is mentioned by everybody but the reader sees few (possibly no) actual signs of it and I consistently regarded him as the good guy.
But, back to Julian. Came across as cruel and noble in general (almost caricature-like), and moving suddenly from dishonourable to honourable. Also his appearances seemed incredibly brief; as though the author really didn't like writing for him. Comparing him to the others - he seemed most like Eric; I imagine partly because Corwin disliked them both.
I also wished that the relationship between him and Corwin had been explored more.
