With a couple of tiny presents thrown in.

Today is [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's birthday. Because yesterday's cake was a moderate success, it's going to get ten glittery candles (he didn't want thirty-two) for this evening. Ryan and Bea were disappointed to learn that they aren't getting cake until after then.

Today is also the day I decided to try and start Beatrice on potty training with the aim of getting her dry over Christmas. So far, it isn't working. She's not even mentioning action in that area to me. Never mind, plenty of time left.

I've got presents today, too.
In a sense I had presents yesterday, because it was three containers designed to suggest gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Any offers on which of the latter two would come in a jug, and which in a box ? I'm thinking myrrh *might* be pourable, but to be honest, I'd have expected both of them in boxes.

I just got your Christmas card, by the way. Thank you!

Dom's letter hasn't arrived, I take it? :/ (It was only dropped quite recently, so maybe it still has a chance.)

Not yet, but now you've foreshadowed it I get to be all anticipatey (or whatever the adjectival form of 'anticipate' should be) !

According to the Cambridge Dictionary ('cos I don't really have a clue) :

Myrrh : "a sticky brown substance with a strong smell which is used in making perfume and incense".

Frankincense : "a thick sticky liquid that produces a sweet smell when burned and is obtained from a tree that grows in eastern Africa and Asia".

So either might be vaguely pourable. Perhaps the jug contains a spoon or brush or something to use to get it out?

Either "anticipating" or, if you need to qualify what is otherwise an absolute, perhaps "anticipatory" would suit?

Both frankincense and myrrh are pourable. Frankincense has a nice woody smell and is good for asthma, and myrrh has a slightly odd woody smell and is antiseptic and vulnerary.

A box containing either of them would get distinctly soggy.

Hmm. I'm quite sure that myrrh at least does come in a powdery form - though possibly many other forms as well.
