So, first biblical-themed entry. I'm expecting a fox any day now, y'know.

I'm starting to live in fear of Christmas after my problems with the birthday presents. First of all, Bea's necklace and bracelet both broke scattering beads everywhere (we've kept the beads, I have hopes of buying new elastic for them). Next the helicopter ran out of power. At this point I discover that the helicopter takes C batteries ([livejournal.com profile] bateleur's mother provided us with a huge pack of AA batteries for it!) so, for some unknown reason, is fitted with little "Heavy Duty" AA batteries (R6 rather than LR6) wearing coats. I eventually swapped them for some C batteries after discovering standard AA didn't work (even in the coats). If that wasn't enough hassle, yesterday Ryan has broken his CD player. Before anyone asks this is an Early Learning Centre CD Player (see here) and was for three year olds. So I'm a bit disappointed that it was as fragile as it seems to be. This is particularly depressing as he seems to think it's all my fault.

Last night I succumbed to temptation and put the tree and the tinsel up. The twins were open-mouthed with amazement when they came down for breakfast and Bea finally declared the tinsel to be "funny". They've also left a few decorations on the tree, so I have hopes that I won't be spending the entire month putting them all again up day after day.

Also last night I did a Good Deed and went out into the cold, dark back garden with the aim of listening for meowing. Yes, Emily had been eaten by a shed. Again. I worked out that she was next door and the neighbour concerned obligingly let her back out (whilst being saintly enough not to say "isn't that the twelfth time this year?").

(I'm going to need to give in and make myself a Christmas icon soon...)

Today I've got a statue of a bloke on a horse. I remember seeing him, and faintly recall that he might be called something like Vittore Emmanuel.

And I love the thought of the twins suddenly finding their living room turned into a wonderland of sparkliness :-)
