With the end of V I've completed all the Final Fantasy games ever released in this country.

In many ways, V was the best of the pre-PSOne games. It uses effectively the same system as the DressSpheres from X-2 allowing for a lot more strategy than it's predecessors. The plot is middling, IV and VI were better, but there's more to it than the earliest games. The dungeons were not the unbearably long trogs of the earlier games and the save points were moderately well spaced (although there were still gaps I regarded as too big).

What's more interesting is how it was obviously made at that point in the sequence. It's the last game with a "crystals hunt" being the main theme. Additionally the last game where you have no choice about who is in the party. There's still the whole "talk to everyone to find out everything" aspect that exists until VIII and specific sequences (eg. the submarine and the dancing) that have echoes elsewhere (eg. VII and VIII). There's little on the non-combat quests side (that starts in VI most memorably with the opera scene) or subgames (which really started with VII - chocobo racing, chocobo breeding, motorcycle fights, snowboarding, etc.)

My main complaint? That Bartz in the FMV *so* isn't Bartz from the game.

Although given that you called the character 'Kester' in the game (a much better and more FF-ish name IMO) there's no reason to suppose they're the same character at all !
