The Vacuuming of the Muffin Monster
Yesterday was my Athory session.
The first problem that the party faced was to rescue Taronus (![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
chrisvenus) from The Living Dock. Taronus managed this step on his own by making an agreement with the Rogue Stones (the original rogue empathy mage faction) whereby he owed them a favour in exchange for their merchant ally driving him out of the city with his goods.
He met up with the party again just south of the river Kelitti and then they wrestled with the difficult decision of what to do next. Bryanna (quisalan) decided to cast an augury to see something of the king and discovered that he was being assisted by a man named Lawrence - a man who looked nothing like the Lawrence that Heleth (venta) had met back in Carnival. Consequently, whilst other options such as visiting Carnival were mooted, the party eventually decided to travel to Orbassa Spires to pay an ambassadorial visit to the newly-proclaimed king.
The party began their journey west. The route planned was to enter the Dry Duchy through the Duchy of Eye and Shore so as to avoid as much of Duke Valentin's territory (the Duchy of Oak) as possible. However, on the first night they were attacked by a pack of the Duke's mutated dogs. Finch (chrestomancy) was somewhat mauled whilst holding off two of them (Bryanna fought the other two) until the rest of the party awoke and scrambled to their aid. Then, just when it seemed that the attack was over, a mutated cat leaped upon Finch. The warrior dodged it at the last minute and the party finished it off quickly.
Once the border with Eye and Shore was reached, Danaeus (bateleur) decided to go fishing whilst Heleth and Finch searched the forest for food. However, instead of catching some much-needed food, Danaeus came face to face with a Lirrisorn. The group gather to tackle this enemy together, but it was gone by the time they reached the shore again.
The journey through Eye and Shore was peaceful enough. The group stopped in Zerity Shrine (they rested at the Bronze Blade and had a small encounter with a group of incompetent muggers), bought fresh supplies and visited the Offices to ask whether any Blades or their stories still remained (the priests told them that the Blades used to be housed at the estate which now belonged to Lady Patricia).
The party finally arrived at Orbassa Spires, six days after leaving Chir Shrine, and asked for an audience with the newly appointed King. The city itself was quiet whilst the Rogue Stones were much in evidence. The King agreed to a prompt meeting so the entire group headed for the court rooms.
Lady Bryanna asked many, many questions. The King said that he had no intention of invading Lathany, that he saw no reason why Leonides' island could not be a teaching centre but would still be considered part of the Athory kingdom, and that he had no agreements with any non-human races. Taronus, meanwhile, probed the mind of the "Lord" Lawrence. He discovered that the man considered himself to be the former Duke Lawrence of the Masked Duchy but - his mind was a complete mess. Part of him was a powerful infinity mage, part a powerful empathy mage and both or either could actually be in control. Taronus was not sure whether this man was Lawrence, having survived powerful mind-magic, or whether he was an impostor believing himself to be Lawrence (after surviving powerful mind-magic). Either could be the case. The only thing that Taronus was sure of was that this was a powerful mage and would make a dangerous enemy.
After their audience with the King and Lord Lawrence, Bryanna and Roland (ao_lai)argued about what outcome would be best for for King Ellen. Whilst a unified Athory might bring its people more security and peace, it would also mean that the Northern lands were finally in a position to re-establish their old Empire again - including Lathany itself.
After a couple of days in Orbassa Spires, the group decided to head South to Carnival to see the other Lawrence and to find out what had really happened to the city. They arrived to find wasteland, a couple of ships and two small camps merchant's camps. Their efforts to open a gate were in vain. However, perhaps a night's sleep would change things...
Meanwhile, fed up with baby food, Beatrice had been eying up the session snacks. She started by trying a few grapes - but found them rather large for her mouth. Undeterred, she looked around for something better; and found it. She sneaked up to the closed pack of mini muffins. As soon as she was certain that all the adults were pre-occupied with their strange game, she opened it and pulled out two mini-muffins sticking one straight in her mouth. Then of course, she was spotted. Mummy confiscated both muffins, then relented and gave one back after peeling the paper off of it. Mummy also whisked out the camera and took photographs. There were many chocolatey crumbs and expressions of enjoyment. Then Daddy returned from the bathroom to be told all about it.
Beatrice in a chocolatey mess is alwaysbateleur's baby (as opposed to mine). Daddy got out the vacuum cleaner. He vacuumed the crumbs up off the floor (despite Bea's best efforts to pick them up and stuff them in her mouth first) and then vacuumed the Beatrice. Bea didn't like this at all and burst into tears ("I've never seen her so upset" exclaimed chrisvenus). However a couple of hugs later and she had recovered.
chrestomancy stuck around to do his saintly babysitting bit, so bateleur and I went out for a curry after cotting the babies. It's been several months since I last went for curry. I usually prefer chinese because meals out since the babies have been rare and the chinese is better. However I enjoyed my lamb pasanda, boiled rice (I've not been able to cope with the richness of any other type of rice since my post-pregnancy diet), peshwari nan and carribean coffee.
And Dom's mother confirmed that the babies will be disappearing again in thirty-three days time...
