The Joys and Horrors of WelliPets

[livejournal.com profile] frax and [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin bought the twins WelliPets for their birthday. Ryan got ducks and Beatrice was given ladybirds. Today, it having been a wet sort of morning, I got them out.

The idea was to put them on the twins and then take them to Tesco in the pushchair wearing them. I was a little unkeen to walk them around in the new boots too much because they are currently on the large size and I had visions of having to rescue boots from puddles every two minutes. Instead, the splashing outing will wait for [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's assistance.

I started the experiment by putting boots on both of them (Bea first), much to their fascination. I then let them both wander the lounge for a bit in the new footwear (it was a little like watching someone trying to walk in skates or snowboots for the first time). Then I loaded them into the pushchair and set off.

The rest of the morning was spent putting boots back on babies. Bea dropped one of hers four times before we even got to Tesco, then Ryan decided to join in. Bea wasn't too bad as she didn't yell every time she lost a boot (just stuck her head out and looked about in a worried fashion). However, Ryan made more than enough noise for the both of them.

When I reached the till, I had had enough. To this end I moved their legs so that all four feet were now sticking up over the footbar of the pushchair (they sometimes do this anyway when they want to do their "laid-back" thing). This saved me and we got home without a single dropped boot.

But, from now on, the boots will be saved for puddle-splashing.

A belt, some string, four bulldog clips (per twin). You too can improvise boot suspenders!

Oooh ! That's really tempting. Not least because Bea will think it's the best joke ever.

That sounds like a trick my mom would have thought of. She was a great fan of clips.

Wellipets!

How cute! (even if the actual experience of the twins with them was less cute)

I'm envious! Surely adults, like farmers and cavers should be wearing wellies so fashionable as that. :-)

Doh! They will get bigger...

It's worth pointing out that Ryan's shoes are the right size and he still discards one of them frequently...
