Belated Review

Fortunately the video worked and Telewest refrained from putting adverts across the screen.

Empty Places

Hmmm. Not sure what to make of that episode. [livejournal.com profile] bateleur thinks it possible that the final confrontation scene was a set-up by Giles (or Giles and Buffy); I suspect he's wrong. The main problem I found with it was the idea that Buffy's friends would suddenly both openly and publicly oppose her. What's wrong with taking her to one side to have a quiet word ? Also history shows that even when Buffy has been outnumbered she's been right (eg. Ted). Certainly I thought she was right to want to look into the vineyard, although going in with all guns blazing was clearly very rash.

Not the fastest moving episode of the season. It was mostly the comparison between Buffy and Faith whilst Caleb got to mooch around looking menacing (and, of course, beating up on Buffy). And what's with the "he can beat up on Buffy without her hurting him" line ? So could Glory, Adam and The Judge whilst The Mayor was impervious to harm until his Ascension. In each case they simply had to find the relevant weak spot - why are they so convinced that Caleb is any less beatable ?

To me Empty Places was one of the weakest episodes of the season (wot no main plot ?) if it is no more than what we actually saw. The good parts about it were the Spike/Andrew expedition and Faith's elevation to leader which will really only make itself felt from next week.

Shiny Happy People

I enjoyed the Angel dose much more - Fred managed a wonderful performance after having little to do all season. The fact that she had never considered herself a champion rings completely true and it is odd to see her alone after so many people had championed her.

Watching the rest mooning after Jasmine was amusing, although DB seemed to be having trouble keeping a straight face. If they continue like this for the rest of the season it's going to be very dull; but hopefully that won't happen. Besides, as [livejournal.com profile] bateleur points out, Jasmine is one of the creepiest bads ever (and very lich-like).

Oh, and was anyone else reminded of Nicholas Fisk ("Grinny" and "You Remember Me !") ?!

Well, that puts me up-to-date and I guess I better get back to normal twin-heavy life...

Well, I didn't quite go that far. I don't think the scene can be 'straight' - the speed with which absolutely everyone turns on Buffy and their uncompromising stance is just too extreme. However, I have no theory as to what might have been going on (apart from: maybe it's just dreadful scriptwriting).
