Twinless and Dusty

That's right, I'm coming to the end of another twinless week. Yet again I have tried to do a number of household projects and the main one has become much bigger than expected.

Now veterans of my LJ may remember The Radiator. The Wall has turned out to be a similar task. The idea was to replace the wallpaper in the lower part of the hall (and, yes, this is a tiny fraction of the entire hall being just the bit around the front door, the bit around the lounge door and the wall next to the lounge door going up to the first wooden bar - just below first floor floor height) with a nice pale paint ("Caramel Cream"). Given that the wallpaper out there is the sort of dubious bumpy sort that people use to hide flaws in their walls, I had already decided that wall filler (which I keep wanting to call putty) would also be necessary.

Stage 1 : I stripped off the old wallpaper ([livejournal.com profile] bateleur watched me do most of it and then decided he would do the higher parts to save me standing on a chair).
Stage 2 : [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and I stared at the really impressive holes underneath.
Stage 3 : [livejournal.com profile] bateleur decided that he was going to do the holes (as they fell more into the advanced category than the beginner one) and the largest would need at least three fills.
Stage 4 : [livejournal.com profile] bateleur did the first layer of filler.
Stage 5 : I attached masking tape around all the walls but the one with holes.
Stage 6 : I put on the first coat of paint everywhere but where the holes were (ie. the front door wall).
Stage 7 : [livejournal.com profile] bateleur did the second layer of filler.
Stage 8 : [livejournal.com profile] bateleur found a wobbly bit of painted wall which he turned into a small hole and then filled along with layer three elsewhere.
Stage 9 : Having seen how the first layer of paint looked, I then sandpapered the walls (because of the mess of colours under the original wallpaper - white and brown - it wasn't until the first layer of paint was applied that the unevenness became apparent).

That's where I've got to. Hopefully the remaining stages :

Stage 10 : Fourth and final putty layer.
Stage 11 : Masking tape on the final wall.
Stage 12 : Second layer of paint.
Stage 13 : Third layer of paint.

Will be finished by tomorrow lunchtime.

But, yes, it's turned into a lot of work for a remarkably small result.

Quite apart from The Wall, I have managed a few other jobs and even done some fun stuff.

Jobs
* Cleaning the kitchen sink and side
* Cleaning the bath, sink and toilet
* Vacuuming the entire lounge (stopping to move furniture and rescue small toys every thirty seconds).
* Packing away all my OU stuff from the white chest into boxes bound for the shed
* Sorting through the kids toys and redistributing some of them into the white box
* Finally putting most of the boxes out for recycling (and remembering not to put the newspaper out to recycling)

Fun Stuff
* Duplicate bridge on Saturday (as mentioned by [livejournal.com profile] bateleur earlier)
* Seeing Bridget Jones : The Edge of Reason (good light entertainment, Hugh Grant particularly is excellent; although disappointing because I preferred the book.)
* Watching The Fellowship of the Ring on DVD.
* Going out for a meal last night (only to the mexican place near the cinema, but I thoroughly enjoyed my cheese-and-bacon burger, Tia Maria profiteroles and large glass of white wine)
* Writing a bit more of Empty-handed (almost twenty-thousand words written this month, although most of that was before this week)
* Playing Sun Ce in Dynasty Tactics 2 (he's got the best intro of any of the four)
* Patchwork Universe
* Chocolate pots (the cooking and the eating)
* Shopping in Tesco without a pushchair!

Also, to come, is my father-in-law's birthday celebration tomorrow and the twins birthday party on Sunday. Not to mention the vacuuming of the twins room.

It's been a busy week.
