Taking down the decorations and Proven Guilty

I took the decorations down today. I always feel somewhat sad doing it, even when it's been a good holiday (as this year was). It's partly because there's not another holiday or occasion for a while (Shrove Tuesday, the next one, is mid February).

I have read one of my Christmas books - Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher. It's book (counts) eight in the Dresden series so I mostly knew what I was getting and was therefore a good book to start my January commute with (I went in on Friday). I liked the plot, liked that he's now a Warden and that he finally started to talk to people about stuff.

I haven't - so I'll take a look at some point. Thanks for the rec.

Ooh, that looks like my cuppa too!

I have three urban fantasy series that I'm currently following: he Dresden books, the Peter Grant books by Ben Aaronovitch, and the Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs. From what I can tell on Amazon the Nightside books look to be very much in same wheelhouse :)

I will warn that the Nightside books are a bit 'lucky' in places - right person shows up at the right time sort of thing. But they are silly fun. Not as good as Ben Aaronovitch. I've also read some of the SM Reine Preternatural Affairs series (even more silly but readable) and Mike Carey 'Felix Castor' series which is a bit like a British Dresden Files I think :)

Also, as usual, let me just throw in Kelley Armstrong for urban fantasy :)
