I started to tune out a bit during this series. As you said, the new characters didn't add a lot, and the old characters often seemed to be doing again what they'd done before.

I particularly didn't like Mohinder getting a power - I felt the way 'mundanes' like Mohinder and Noah could hold their own was a valuable ingredient of the first series.

But the big irritations were

* Sylar - not dead
* New York in peril - been there, done that

It was starting to become clear by this stage that the writers had started to lose grip on their universe. Some of the powers were too powerful, and the 'save New York again' plot didn't cut it.

I think for this series a braver script team would have given us a new bad guy, cut some of the series one characters and brought in more interesting replacements. That the Heroes splitered after the end of series 1, all heading off in their pairs is just odd. I'd have liked to see a bunch of them trying to work everything out together. Because, really, it's hard to imagine that people wouldn't have done that.
