And there were fireworks

Yesterday evening, we had quiet New Year's Eve plans. We were going to bath the duo then settle down to a decent meal with a decent wine. We wanted a quiet evening and thought that we probably wouldn't stay up for midnight.

However the bath did not go down too well. Bea hated the idea of it because she knew she was going to have her hair washed. [livejournal.com profile] bateleur gave her the choice of the bath or Not Choosing The Frais (whoever the "good twin" is gets to choose which animal pot of frais they have at teatime) and Bea, when presented with the frais, decided she would let Ryan choose the frais (a big sacrifice because it meant getting the monkey rather than the tiger) at which point [livejournal.com profile] bateleur admitted it was a bluff and gave her the tiger.

Bath time arrived and with tears and tantrums Bea was brought into the bathroom, undressed and put into the bath. [livejournal.com profile] bateleur started the hair-washing process and tried to calm her down.

"But we have to wash your hair, Bea."
"No! No!"
"It's to make you look beautiful, like a princess."
"Princesses don't have wet hair!"

I got to wash Ryan's hair (usually considered the harder task of the two). There are two real options; the "try and keep water out of his eyes" approach and the "quick in, quick out" approach. I went for the latter and was speedy. He probably spent more time crying than having his hair washed.

When it was over, of course, neither of them wanted to come back out of the bath.

For dinner, we'd bought steak, mushrooms, peppers, cauliflower and various fresh fruits. The wine was Tesco Finest Merlot (from Australia) and we both thought it was an excellent red (and will try and buy another bottle or two tomorrow). The main course was the steak with garlic mushrooms and cheese-roasted vegetables. The dessert was fruit salad (blueberries, mango, peaches, kiwi) with cream. Then we ate various artist chocolates (a box had appeared mysteriously in the post when we got back to Feltham - it has the ponciest wrapping ever) which were delicious.

The rest of the evening was spent gaming and chatting, but we were both tired by half-ten and decided to go up then. We thought we'd wake up for 2006 and this was true, but not the way we expected. Instead one of our neighbours had a huge, loud fireworks display at midnight! We wished each other Happy New Year then and went back to sleep.
