Actually, I did like one bit: the reaction shot after Fred's parents got into the lift. The change in Amy Acker's posture as she transitioned between "Fred" and Illyria was very nicely done. The simple act of cocking her head "just so" creeped me out.
Pity it was about 1 second in a hour long episode...
To be honest, I'm getting deja vu about this season. It feels rather like Babylon5 series 4, when they compressed the plot. I think the Angel team are squeezing in all the stuff they wanted to do, and as such, don't have time to do a decent job of any of it. For example, the Illyria subplot last night could easily have done a whole episode, and been much more interesting to boot.
They are compressing plot, which is a bit upsetting, because they've got some nice things here. I think they wanted to do one last thing with Darla/Drusilla, and couldn't figure out how to hook things in.
Take heart--it's easily the low point, and IMHO it's good from here.

I didn't watch last night's ep - I was watching Firefly on DVD instead, and it sounds like I had a much better evening than you did!

Darla/Dru could have had a much better episode though...
